Safari Zoo Run 2013

 

Here again for the fifth consecutive year, the Singapore Zoo and Night Safari will be opening their doors for all avid runners to enjoy the sights of our wildlife exhibits while keeping up with a healthy lifestyle through the run in the parks. The Safari Zoo Run 2013 will be held in the morning of 17 February 2013.

The Safari Zoo Run aims to give runners from all walks of life a unique and memorable experience! Part of the proceeds from the event will also go towards the care of endangered animals at Night Safari and Singapore Zoo. Safari Zoo Run was conceptualised to commemorate the death anniversary of orang utan Ah Meng, one of Singapore’s most adored animal personalities.

Adventurous little ones and adults can participate in the 2.8km and 12km Safari Zoo Challenge competitive runs respectively. There’s also a 2.8km competitive category for adult-child pairs. Families looking for healthy walk amid nature can enjoy a more leisurely pace with the 6km Safari Zoo Fun Run.

Each participant of Safari Zoo Run 2013 will receive an exclusive Safari Zoo Run Tee (worth $39.90 for adults and $19.80 for kids) and other attractive goodies including 50% discounted admission into Night Safari and Jurong Bird Park. In addition, all runners will walk away with an exclusive animal-motif finisher medal and one-day entry to Singapore Zoo on the day of the run. Hello 2013 !!


We all look forward to a new beginning in the New Year; what goodies will 2013 bring and to the Chinese, what good fortune will the water Snake deliver. But first, how and where shall we celebrate the coming of 2013? Below is a list of activities which will give you many reasons to stay up late at night.
 

|||||Marina Bay Countdown

It is the annual fireworks which many people do not want to miss. Then do not miss the Countdown 2013 held by Marina Bay Singapore on 31 December at the Marina Bay. The traditional variety song and dance show will attract millions of people together to greet the arrival of the New Year and offering everyone the blessings. To have a fantastic view of the New Year's Eve fireworks show; head straight for the Ferris wheel and enjoy the splendid aerial pyrotechnics and lights.

|||||Siloso Beach Party

If the fireworks were not enough, you can go to Siloso Beach countdown to greet the first sunrise. Thousands of revellers of all nationalities who make their way to this annual musical fiesta at this outdoor beach usually will party until sunrise. Make your way through the five party zones and burn up the dance floor with your electrifying moves to the heart-thumping hits at the Main Arena, the house beats are at the COASTES and the dance tunes are at the Azzura Beach Club. There is also spiced-up Latin Jazz grooves at the Mambo and chilled-out rhythms at the Wave House Sentosa. If that’s not wild enough, let loose your inhibitions at the legendary massive foam pool. Note: it’s only open to adults above 18.

You love everything about Clarke Quay – the cool bars, the live music, the merrymaking crowd, and the crazy clubs – so naturally, that’s your go-to spot for the biggest night of the year. Join celeb hosts Chua Enlai and Cheryl Miles as they charge headfirst into the New Year with live performances by local band Goodfellas, Australian Queen tribute band and Japanese DJ Shigeki, plus loads of colourful characters like belly dancers and masquerade stilt walkers. And don’t forget the vibrant pyrotechnic displays. You know what they say: go big or go home.

If you’re a fervent supporter of the local music scene, you’ll want to tune in to this raving concert featuring 2004 Singapore Idol winner Taufik Batisah, rapper ShiGGa Shay, indie group The Sam Willows, pop hip-hop duo Trick, contemporary rocker Brandon Lee and more. For a dose of international flava, look out for K-pop band M.I.B. (Most Incredible Busters), Malaysian jazz songstress Sheila Majid and the cast of Jersey Boys, among others. It’s a night of stellar music backed by stunning fireworks at the stroke of midnight. Not one for crowds? Catch the party from the comfort of your home on Channel 5 at 11pm.

|||||New Year’s Eve Countdown Party

Gather all you art fanatics and culture lovers. Hit up the galleries of the Asian Civilisations Museum (without charge) to browse through displays of Asian heritage, Islamic arts, Thai Buddhist works and more. There’ll be dazzling Thai performances and party tunes in the area, plus a pretty good view of the Marina Bay fireworks from afar.




Special viewing period of the Giant Pandas

In view of the year end school holidays, the Giant Panda Forest which housed the 2 giant pandas, will be opened to the public for a special preview from Nov 29 until the end of this year. The Giant Panda Forest is part of the upcoming River Safari, is located between the Night Safari and the Singapore Zoo. It is scheduled to be ready in the first quarter of 2013.

The two giant pandas Kai Kai and Jia Jia are here for 10 years, as part of a joint collaboration between the China Wildlife Conservation Association and the Wildlife Reserves Singapore (WRS), to raise the public awareness on wildlife conservation and also to develop a breeding programme for these endangered animals.

Those visitors, who already paid $20 (adults) and $13 (children) to enter the Singapore Zoo, will have to pay a top-up fee of $5 (adults) and $3 (children) to go to the Giant Panda Forest to view Kai Kai and Jia Jia. Alternately, if the visitors just want to go to the Giant Panda Forest, then they just have to pay the entrance fees of $25 (adults) and $16 (children).

Tickets to the giant panda exhibit will be on sale daily from 8.30am from Nov 29 onwards.Tickets are on a first-come-first-served basis to accommodate an optimum number of visitors in the Giant Panda Forest at any one time. The Giant Panda Forest will also have other wildlife exhibits from China, such as the golden pheasant and the red panda.(â– Singapore 360°)

Celebrate Christmas in Singapore


Christmas is coming; you can go to Orchard area where there will week long festivities which will surely put a smile on your face. Celebrate Chritmas in Singapore (CCIS) will take place on Orchard Road and Marina Bay from 17 to 25 December this year. True to its tradition since 2003, CCIS has been relating the story of Christmas through songs, dances and theatre actings.

During this week, the spectators can revel every night with musical and drama performances, as well as participating in the fun-filled interactive activities such as the mass wellness and health exercise led by celebrity DJ Dong Fang Billy. There will also be a well-choreographed fashion show too.

Everyone on Orchard Road is invited to this CCIS celebration where there will be beautiful floats as well as heart-warming dioramas depicting the Christmas Story, including the Nativity scene. The true-to-life sets will also feature actors dressed as Roman soldiers, shepherds and maidens.

Christmas celebrations will not be complete without the nostalgic Christmas carols. This year you can join CCIS celebrations on the 23 and 24 December as they present Orchard Road’s biggest Mass Carolling event. It will be held at the ION Square from 1930 hrs to 2045 hrs. Be prepared to be mesmerised by the harmony of some 500 carollers from the different churches in Singapore and even from the neighbouring countries.

Finally, on Christmas Day, there will be a grand concert themed - Christmas is Love - to be held between Scotts Road and Bideford Road. Those with a penchant for last minute Christmas shopping will also find more reasons to indulge as five Orchard Road malls; 313@somerset (from 21 to 22 December), ION Orchard, Paragon, TANGS Orchard and the Centrepoint, will remain open until 11pm from 19 to 23 December.

If you are a tourist loaded with shopping receipts and GST rebates, you can apply for a rebate of the excise tax at the Changi Airport departure hall. PSY Gangnam Style coming to Singapore


PSY, Gangnam Style K-pop singer, will arrive in Singapore on the 1 December 2012, to perform his global phenomenon dance hit song at the Marina Bay Sands Event Plaza.

PSY will be horsing around and singing his contagious Korean rap song with Marina Bay Sands designated charity, O School which is a performing arts centre for youths. The free public performance showcase is scheduled to last for an hour.

Marina Bay Sands Singapore will be rewarding its Facebook fans with complimentary tickets to watch this ‘Gangnam Style” performance in Singapore.

The first 4000 fans to register at www.facebook.com/marinabaysands will get the chance of the complimentary entrance ticket.This is the first time that PSY is visiting Singapore.PSY Gangnam Style YouTube video is now the most watched YouTube video of all time with more than 825 million views worldwide, making him the world’s number 1 biggest pop sensation in 2012.

At the recent America Music Award last week, when PSY performed the hip-hop Gangnam style with America’s popular MC Hammer, the American public felt that the hip-hop Gangnam Style is no longer interesting.
