Singapore Zoo: Rainforest Lumina

As a child, have you ever wondered how a tropical rainforest would look like at night? Fairy tales always depict a spectacular and mysterious rainforest; as the night darkens, fireflies gather together forming clustered dots of fluorescence, creating a magnificent view from a distance. From time to time, you are able to hear the chirping of crickets coming from the woods. As the night grows darker, the moon is the only source of light that illuminates your path; the dark rainforest then turns mysterious and daunting…

In order to satisfy your childhood curiosity, "Singapore Zoo" and Moment Factory collaborated to launch a "Rainforest Lumina"! Bringing you to explore the rainforest at night, as if one has walked into a brand new magical dreamworld and leaving with memorable yet extraordinary experiences. The vast garden is divided into several areas - "Foresta Lumina", "Anima Lumina", "Nova Lumina", "Lumina Borealis" and "Tonga Lumina". Each area has its own unique style, allowing you to experience the innovative and interactive nightwalk!

Happy Deepavali

The National Day of Singapore is celebrated every year on August 9, in commemoration of the Singapore's independence from Malaysia in the year 1965. It is a public holiday which will feature a military parade combined with song & dance performances preceded by a guard of honour inspection by the President. Towards the end of the National Day celebrations, the bursts of colourful fireworks will lit up the night sky. On the eve of National Day, the Prime Minister will deliver an address to the nation which will be broadcast live on the national TV airtime.

Singaporeans from all walks of life, race & religion will join hands to celebrate the nation’s independence day.

It is one of the most important Chinese festivals, and everywhere else here in Singapore it is about celebration with the family marked by colourful lantern processions and the oh-so-sweet mooncakes. Since the Mid-Autumn Festival is about lunar appreciation, celebrations will go into full swing once the sun goes down.

Moon viewing parties are a popular way to enjoy the occasion as family and friends sit in gardens lit by the soft glow of paper lanterns, sip tea and nibble away on the mooncakes.

On this day and time of year, the moon is at its brightest, which is why it is a celebratory day.

Like every year, the 2016 World Baijiu Day will be held on August 8, just a day before the 9 August Singapore National Day. The goal of this celebratory day is to raise people’s awareness of Chinese Baijiu. It is a strong aromatic and powerful alcohol that ranks top in China and is amongst the most consumed spirits in the world. But however it is less known outside of China borders.

The baijiu aroma and flavor have been described as everything from fig, soy sauce to pineapples, musk and even gasoline and earning itself the nickname “firewater.” Not many people enjoy consuming shots of any hard liquor or spirit drink, whether it is vodka, cognac, whiskey, gin or baijiu, especially when the alcohol level reaches 50% and above which accidentally is the signatory characteristic of china baijiu. The aim of having this Baijiu Day is to make baijiu more accessible by using it for easy drinks such as cocktails, infusions and even with foods so that everyone is able to enjoy the taste of baijiu all over the world.
