This year, Universal Studios Singapore (USS) is all prepared to up the ante for its ninth Halloween Horror Nights (HHN) with The Chalet Hauntings, a possessed house that will feature the most extensive collection of Southeast Asian ghosts under one roof by the directors of blockbuster Thai horror films Shutter and 4bia. Featuring all-new frights across 16 event nights, fans can experience five haunted houses, two scare zones and two live killer shows, and try to survive the Undertaker as he roams around, searching for the next unsuspecting victim.

The ‘chalet’ haunted house – a first for USS HHN – will be popular among Singaporeans who grew up spending holidays and weekends at local chalets, and perhaps trigger some of the nation’s most commonly shared experiences of paranormal sightings. The space will also incorporate illusions, animatronics and special effects that will trigger all five senses, raising fears and anxieties, and testing one’s limits.

Early bird ticket sales will run from now till 1 September at S$65 (peak nights) and S$55 (non-peak nights). Regular tickets are available at S$70 for peak nights and S$60 for non-peak nights. Guests can also enjoy many of the theme park’s exciting rides and attractions during event nights.

Funan Digital Life Mall

All Singaporeans know Funan DigitalLife Mall was the must-go-to-mall for tech and IT products. It shuttered its doors in 2006 but now the mall is fully revamped that includes a space expansion by 1.8 times of its former size which now stands at 889,000 sq ft. While Funan is still staying true to its tech roots with multiple IT stores, the revamped mall has become more than just a place for techies and computer geeks. Besides 180 retail brands focusing on six themes – tech, craft, play, fit, chic, and taste — the mall also boasts features like:
An indoor cycling track
An urban farm and food garden
A multimedia art installation, and
A tree-like structure spanning from Basement 2 to Level 4 that houses 20 retail pods. Here are some of the highlights:

Urban rooftop farm

Need some fresh air after shopping? Go up to the Urban Farm on the rooftop for some fresh air. The roof gardens faces the disc-shaped structure of the Supreme Court and do take note the only lift that goes to the rooftop is at Lobby A; alternatively you can also take the stairs.

Everything grown here is edible, and although not open for public purchase, you can find these vegetables being used in the mall’s farm-to-table eateries like Noka.

Sports Facilities
Funan DigitalLife mall is Singapore’s first bicycle and PMD friendly mall which you can ride in with your e-scooter along the dedicated path, but do stick within the speed limit! Always make sure of other shoppers on foot.

Located at the rooftop, it has a futsal court where you can have a friendly game with your pals You will need to pre-book with CapitalStar app.

One of the most anticipated things is the indoor rock climbing, the Climb Central. It has set up a fifteen meter wall with 50 lanes that you can try and not to worry about fighting for space even during peak periods.

Shopping and F&B

KOPItech (Unit: B2-24)

Kopitiam goes high tech. At KOPItech, don’t worry about the queueing nightmare that we are all afraid of. You can now order your food from a kiosk and collect it when your number flashes on-screen.

Nasty Cookie (Unit: 02-35)

Nasty Cookie is indeed ‘nasty’ with their chewy and gooey cookies that are full of sugary toppings such as Oreos, chocolate chips, speculoos biscuits. Do you know what’s better? To complete your cookies with a rich injection of nutella, marshmallow or dulce de leche sauce.

Love Bonito (#02-09)

Experience an AR runway at Love Bonito’s largest store. The pastel pink eye catching store is definitely more than just a boutique, it specifies on the whole shopping experience.
Multiple spots around the store for you to update your Instagram. Especially the augmented reality (AR) runway. Simply just activate it by scanning a  QR code with your smartphone and as you twirl along the passage, the screen will be bloomed with flowers.
In summary, I feel Funan Digital mall has revamped successfully.  No longer just an electronics mall, it has new selection of food, shopping and entertainment options now open! Time to add in this mall to your go-to list and explore the new Funan!

Halloween Horror Nights 8

What is October without the iconic Halloween Horror Nights (HHN) at Universal Studios Singapore (USS)?! This year, USS brought us 5 haunted houses, 2 scare zones, Zombie Laser Tag game, and 3 live shows. One of the highlights for 2018 HHN would be the collaboration with one of the most popular shows on Netflix - Stranger Things. The House features Stranger Things Season 1, with 12 rooms depicting 12 different scenes and different character’s perspective. This is a must-go for Stranger Things’ fans as the set-up is screen-accurate with details from the show.

The other 4 Haunted Houses are 1. Pontianak - iconic ghost story from South East Asia, the long-haired women with a white gown will haunt you down as she emerges from the banana trees; 2. Pagoda of Peril - is a mysterious haunted house which story is based on Chinese Mythology and Fantasy; 3. The Haunting of Oiwa - based on the infamous Japanese ghost story of Yotsuya where Lady Oiwa has returned from the dead to seek revenge after being poisoned by her unfaithful husband; 4. Killuminati - the Chinese Secret Society of Vampires that has existed for centuries — where mystery, controversy, and nightmare await you.

The haunted houses are filled with a plot, a detailed depiction of the plot as well as a lot of elements of scares that makes your adrenaline rush. Other than the haunted houses, there are 2 scare zones which are themed areas where guests can explore freely. Because scare zones are out in the open, the scare experience is generally less intense than at the haunted houses – great for a brief respite in between your haunted house conquests. There are 2 themes: Apocalypse: Earth (Bottom Fig 1) and Cannibal (Bottom Fig 2).

Since you spent so much money on the tickets, you might as well watch their Live Performances too! This year, there are 3 Live Performances: 1. Scaremony - depicts a scary hospital; 2. DEAD Talk - take a break from all the screaming and enjoy a sharing session from Gideon Grim!; 3. Blood and Bones -  a story of a human sacrifice gruesome ritual.

Last but not least, after a night of screams, have some fun and adrenaline rush from the Zombie Laser Tag Game! Try your best to survive from the zombies, work together with your teammates and execute all the zombies! The game lasts for 10 - 15 minutes, it is very exciting and thrilling experience!
